the thai government has waived visa fees until march 2010 so if you are planning a trip for longer than 30 days or you are of a nationality that requires a visa for any length of stay, this is good news.
the malaysian government has advised that with effect from 01 december 2009, the transit facility without visa up to 120 hours at five (5) entry points in malaysia, previously given to passport holders of bangladesh, india, pakistan and sri lanka is hereby cancelled. all passport holders from the abovementioned countries must have social/short visa for a transit at any point of entry in malaysia. notwithstanding, nationals of the abovementioned countries who have a valid permanent resident status or have a valid long term permit of stay or have a valid work permits from other countries may be given the transit facility without visa up to 120 hours.
emirates airways are now flying melbourne to kuala lumpur and return at great prices.
virgin blue offshoot, v australia, has now commenced services between australia (melbourne, sydney and brisbane) to the usa, and melbourne to phuket, thailand and will add the following service as below soon -
- melbourne to johannesburg, south africa direct flights from 13 march 2010.
delta airlines also commenced operation from sydney to the usa in july.
